[18:27:27] <kaustavdm> satabdi, SunuThePirate, the code for glugcal's website is pretty stable now. I had emailed about to the wfs-india list as well. Would you like me to take it from there and deploy a site for wfs-india?
[18:31:50] -!- chandankumar has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
[18:33:14] -!- sayan [sayan!~sayanchow@fedora/sayan] has joined #wfs-india
[18:34:51] <SunuThePirate> kaustavdm: Hi. I have looked at the glugcal site, it looks pretty cool. The only thing I don't like is probably the top-border. I like the simplistic design a lot. :)
[18:35:10] -!- gem [gem!~nandaja@117.204.115.135] has joined #wfs-india
[18:35:58] <kaustavdm> SunuThePirate, I have not coded the design (theme). I used a readymade theme. The top border colour can be changed dynamically through the admin. My target was to hook up a stable, minimalist theme for the site.
[18:37:20] -!- sayan has quit [Max SendQ exceeded]
[18:38:26] <SunuThePirate> Yeah, the theme is totally cool. I like simple themes more than clumsy, fancy ones, because it's easy on the eyes and you can focus on the contents
[18:39:40] <kaustavdm> SunuThePirate, that was the rationale behind choosing this theme
[18:41:50] <SunuThePirate> Hmm. I should probably try out a local installation and fiddle with things a bit. I have no experience of Drupal or php in general :-|
[18:42:04] <kaustavdm> SunuThePirate
[18:42:16] <kaustavdm> why not take this as an inspiration and build out a better system in python?
[18:42:36] <kaustavdm> I'm not a fan of php either, but have to work in it for professional reasons
[18:42:51] <kaustavdm> the web-hosts are responsible for my working in php so much :-(
[18:44:01] <SunuThePirate> Hmm .. python web hosting can be painful if you don't have a vps.
[18:44:06] <kaustavdm> yes
[18:44:13] <kaustavdm> btw, any update on the hosting?
[18:44:52] <SunuThePirate> Not really. I haven't heard from anyone yet and I'm a bit busy with semesters too.
[18:46:24] <SunuThePirate> btw by 18:42 < kaustavdm> why not take this as an inspiration and build out a better system in python?
[18:46:43] <SunuThePirate> you mean we should build a site in python in future?
[18:46:47] <SunuThePirate> o.O
[18:49:26] <kaustavdm> why not?
[18:52:06] <SunuThePirate> Hmm that would be great :-) I'm all for it.

[18:56:34] -!- chandankumar has quit [Excess Flood]
[18:57:13] <kaustavdm> SunuThePirate, maybe create a distribution that free software groups can use?
[19:00:51] <kaustavdm> there are quite a few options for Drupal
[19:01:04] <kaustavdm> Drupal commons is the best one
[19:01:07] -!- chandankumar [chandankumar!~chandanku@210.212.5.129] has joined #wfs-india

[19:05:12] <SunuThePirate> kaustavdm: What do you think of building something around GAE? It'll provide people with a free platform to deploy their sites.
[19:05:51] -!- chandankumar has quit [Max SendQ exceeded]
[19:06:13] <SunuThePirate> But unless we use something like django-nonrel, it'll probably be totally platform dependent.
[19:06:50] <kaustavdm> SunuThePirate, I prefer building stuff that i can control infrastructurally.
[19:08:43] <kaustavdm> you see, for the glugcal site, I could've used Drupal Commons straightaway. It would've saved quite a bit of headache. But in the end, it is about having the control of your own software, and not remain in the control of another corporation for your tools
[19:10:16] <SunuThePirate> Hmm, true.
[19:12:17] <kaustavdm> actually, I like the specifications that Mani has given for the website
[19:12:50] <kaustavdm> If we can take the time to create a custom stuff, preferably in python, it will be pretty light
[19:13:12] <kaustavdm> maybe make it a sandbox project where members of wfs-india can have a good programming practice?
[19:16:26] <SunuThePirate> what custom stuff specificlly? or all of it? I'll definitely love to code all of it :D
[19:23:20] <kaustavdm> https://github.com
[19:23:40] -!- sayan [sayan!~sayanchow@fedora/sayan] has joined #wfs-india
[19:27:20] <kaustavdm> implementing these
[19:27:30] <kaustavdm> maybe cherrypy or maybe django
[19:27:42] <kaustavdm> targets:
[19:28:01] <kaustavdm> 0. Keep it programmatically attractive
[19:28:11] <kaustavdm> 1. Keep it lean and light
[19:28:39] <kaustavdm> 2. Keep it well-knit. The site should not feel like it is assembled from a thousand pieces, but give a solid UX
[19:28:41] -!- sayan has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
[19:28:57] <SunuThePirate> flask is better IMO
[19:30:30] <kaustavdm> if it solves the present requirement, but keep things light, and developer friendly, we can go for it. I'll need to study it a bit
[19:32:54] <SunuThePirate> Yes, flask is the best llight weight python framework atm.
[19:34:08] <kaustavdm> are there enough people here interested to code a site in python?
[19:34:22] <kaustavdm> it can be a good learning experience for newcomers
[19:37:36] <SunuThePirate> No Idea.
[19:40:00] <kaustavdm> oh
[19:42:03] -!- sayan [sayan!~sayanchow@fedora/sayan] has joined #wfs-india
[19:42:27] <kaustavdm> in that case will this be a fruitful initiative?
[19:44:25] <SunuThePirate> We have to first determine if people are interested, then only we can draw conclusion.

[19:51:40] <SunuThePirate> We have to first determine if people are interested, then only we can draw conclusion.
[19:51:46] <SunuThePirate> this ^^
[19:53:00] <kaustavdm> oh, okay. I'll have to leave now. Can you take up the issue on the mailing list or with others?
[19:53:02] <kaustavdm> Good night
[19:53:24] <SunuThePirate> Ok. May be tomorrow
[19:53:33] <SunuThePirate> I'm going to bed too.
